The following copyrighted material may be placed on Physical & Media Reserve according to fair use guidelines:

  • Books the Library owns (print reserve only)
  • Personal copies of legally obtained books including textbooks, and current semester coursepacks
  • Audio and video media in the Libraries' collection
  • Personal copies of legally obtained CDs and DVDs

The following copyrighted material may be placed on E-Reserve according to fair use guidelines:

  • One article from any one journal, one periodical, or one newspaper issue, e.g. New York Times, 6/2/1953
  • One chapter or not more than 10% from a book the Library owns
  • One poem, short story, or essay from a single volume whether or not from a collected work
  • One drawing, cartoon or picture from a book, one journal, one periodical, or one newspaper issue
  • Links to content in library databases or subscription content (depending on resource license)
  • Links to public web content
